Rooted in the belief that no two individuals are alike. Just like every snowflake.

Started in 2016 by a mother turned clinician, Snowflakes was built to provide the kind of personalized care her own son with autism needed. Ten years later, we have become a trusted fixture in Howard County, guided by that exact same vision in every session we lead.

Because each child has a unique path they are traveling, our purpose is to help bring joy and fulfillment to their lives by teaching essential skills that aid them on that journey. Above all, we believe that every child deserves compassionate, individualized care that honors their unique strengths.

Each arm of the snowflake is a child, arms raised, holding the hands of the children beside them. A snowflake only holds its shape because every point is connected to the others.
The meaning behind our name

Why did we choose the name Snowflakes ABA?

One day I was driving home from visiting family in Michigan, thinking about my son Zach, who is on the spectrum, and how different all the children were whom I had met with autism. They are sort of like snowflakes, each completely different from the others, and each beautiful in their own way, I thought to myself. That is what I should name my company. Snowflakes.

It is such an appropriate description of individuals on the spectrum. One of the most common phrases in the autism community is, “When you have met one child with autism, you have met one child with autism.”

While many individuals with autism head to college and employment, my son Zach is on a path of vocational rehabilitation, working at different places in the community such as Goodwill, Walmart and the local library.

How Snowflakes started

I started Snowflakes ABA because I am a parent who has been on this journey, and I wanted to help other families navigate the experiences that I encountered.

I began my path while living in Georgia, where I was on the faculty of the University of Georgia teaching music. After Zach was diagnosed we sought help in the area and found there were not a lot of services for children with autism. We moved to Michigan to get support from family and treatment for Zach.

At four, when we moved, Zach was still nonverbal and had not received any ABA. With the help of an ABA company in Ann Arbor and the evidence-based methods they used, Zach finally was able to express his wants and needs, greatly opening his world and his happiness.

Soon after, I decided I wanted to help other children make the progress I was finally seeing with Zach. I went back to school and received my BCBA certification.

The evidence

What ABA actually is

Using evidence-based practices, ABA is a treatment toolbox of many methods that have been researched and replicated by scientists since the 1960s and improved upon across the years. Notably, ABA therapy is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Our values

Three things we actually measure ourselves against

Growth for the children we serve

  • Individualised treatment plans, built from that child’s assessment data
  • Like every snowflake, every child is unique. The plan follows the child, not the template
  • Goals reviewed continuously, and changed when the data says to

Growth for the clinicians who deliver it

  • Clinicians tell us they left better analysts than they arrived. That is the point of a teaching practice
  • Several of our RBTs have gone on to become BCBAs with us
  • Every RBT receives scheduled, documented BCBA supervision
  • Structured supports for students working toward certification. See student supports

Ethical practice and operations

  • No major recoupment in the company’s history. Documentation matches the care delivered
  • We do not overbill, and we do not provide more ABA than a child needs
  • Billing is in house, so a question reaches someone who knows your case
